Lip Filler 101

Thinking about lip filler? Whether you’re going for subtle volume or a more defined shape, lip injections are one of the most popular ways to enhance your natural look. But if it’s your first time, you probably have questions—what it feels like, how long it lasts, and what to expect after.

At Mindful Med Spa in Boise, we believe in informed decisions and natural-looking results. Here’s everything you should know before booking your lip filler appointment.

What Is Lip Filler?

Lip filler is a cosmetic injectable made with hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance that adds hydration and volume. When injected into the lips, it can:

  • Enhance lip fullness

  • Define the lip border (or Cupid’s bow)

  • Improve symmetry

  • Smooth vertical lip lines

Results are immediate and typically last 6–12 months, depending on the product and your body’s metabolism.

What Happens During the Appointment?

At your appointment, our team will talk through your goals and examine your lip shape to create a custom treatment plan. Dr. Maria Jensen, a board-certified Anesthesiologist, performs all lip filler injections at our office, ensuring precision and safety.

We apply a numbing cream to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. The entire process takes around 30–45 minutes, and you'll see results right away—with full settling taking place over a few days as swelling goes down.

Will It Look Natural?

That’s our priority. At Mindful Med Spa, we aim for balanced, proportional results that enhance your natural features. Whether you want just a touch of volume or more noticeable definition, we’ll tailor your treatment to fit your preferences and facial structure. You’ll never be pushed toward a look that doesn’t feel like you.

What About Swelling or Bruising?

Swelling is normal and usually peaks within the first 24–48 hours. Bruising can occur, especially if you’re prone to it. We recommend:

  • Avoiding alcohol, ibuprofen, and fish oil for a few days before your appointment

  • Applying arnica gel post-treatment if needed

  • Sleeping slightly elevated the first night

Most side effects resolve within a few days.

Is Lip Filler Right for You?

If you’re in good health and want to enhance your lips’ shape or fullness, lip filler may be a great option. We offer free consultations to talk through what’s possible and answer any questions you have. We’ll never rush your decision—this is about feeling confident and empowered.

Your Natural Look, Elevated

Lip filler should enhance—not overwhelm—your features. With the right provider and a clear plan, it can be a simple, rewarding way to refresh your look. Whether you’re just exploring or ready to book, we’re here to help every step of the way.
